Last Tuesday, November 15 has begun the LXVIII Annual Meeting of the Spanish Society of Neurology, once again, held in the Palace of Congresses of Valencia. This national congress is attended by professionals from all sectors related to neurology including physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, psychologists and neuropsychologists.
On November 17, the neurophysiotherapy section, which our colleague Carina Salgueiro has been a member of the board of directors, met to present papers and debates on new approaches to neurological physiotherapy.
The morning began with the demonstration of the functioning of an exoskeleton by the physiotherapist Eva Barquín, who gave us the talk “Implementation of exoskeletons in the modern practice of neurorehabilitation” and the presentation “Task-oriented therapies in neurophysiotherapy” Physiotherapist Yolanda Colodro.
Even in the morning, we heard our companion from the Neurorehabilitation Clinic, Carina Salgueiro, who has taken from Barcelona the theme “Gait rehabilitation: incorporation of the Functional Electrical Stimulation” and the companion Samuel Jiménez with “Neurogenic bladder: Physiotherapy”. The work of the physiotherapist and tutor of the Bobath Concept in the field of urology and gynecology is not as well known in clinical practice but increasingly more frequent. The Neurarehabilitation Clinic is well aware of the importance of this problem in the lives of neurological patients and therefore encourages this work.
In the afternoon we can listen to the work of the Occupational Therapist Miguel Gómez with the talk “Construction of the movement through the motor imaginary graduate”, Physiotherapist and former companion of the Clinic of Neurorehabilitation Cristina de Diego with the work “Physiotherapy intervention in The aquatic environment in adults with neurological pathology “and Physiotherapist Maria Plasencia with the theme” Low cost technology in pediatric neurorehabilitation “.
To conclude the days of the Neurological Physiotherapy study group, a small debate was held with the theme “Toward where Neurophysiotherapy advances” to the control of the current president and secretary of the section, Silvia Diéz and Estela Diges respectively.
The other sections and study groups will also present very interesting topics and works in the area of Neurorehabilitation, transforming the Annual Meeting of the Spanish Society of Neurology an opportunity for exchange and training among professionals of neurology.
